What scaffold is

Scaffold is an editor for creating lessons that combine teaching content and learning activities. You can write an explanation, add media, place a question where learners need it, and preview the finished experience.

What you can author

When you create something in Scaffold, you choose between:

• Page — a scrolling lesson containing text, media, activities, and assessments.
• Slideshow (Beta) — a presentation made from a sequence of slides. Slideshow is ready to try, but its features and layouts may still change.

Both formats are built from blocks. These include text, images, audio, charts, code, embedded resources, structured content, and assessment questions.

For example, you could create:

• A reading followed by a few multiple-choice questions.
• A diagram with clickable regions for learners to identify.
• A slideshow that introduces a topic one slide at a time.
• A quiz containing several different question types.
• A procedure followed by a sequencing activity.

You can mix explanatory content and learner activities in the same page or slideshow.

Who it’s for

Scaffold is for university lecturers, vocational trainers, schoolteachers, and anyone else who creates learning materials and assessments.

Scaffold does not replace your learning management system. Your LMS still handles enrolments, course progress, and student records. Scaffold helps you create the content and activities learners complete there.

What you need to use it

Scaffold is designed to open from the place where you add content to your course. If your institution has installed Scaffold, you can create and edit lessons without leaving your learning platform.

If Scaffold is not available in your course yet, you can try the editor in the hosted playground. Work created there stays on the device you are using and is not added to your learning platform.
